Training, June 9-15

For the first time in a year, I’m actually following a training plan!

Monday: Cross Training. 25 minutes on the stationary bike, 25 minutes of arms/core strength

Tuesday: 5K Time Trial with CES. Finished in around 27:45. Given my knee and lack of mileage as of late, I didn’t want to push too hard. Plus it was pouring rain. We also ran to/from the Lakefront Trail, which was just under 2 miles total.

Wednesday: Cross Training. Another 25min on the bike (this time recumbent) and 25min of arms/core

Thursday: Just under 5 miles which included some “hills” up and down the stretch of Roosevelt that the marathon ends on

Friday: Commute home via Divvy, ~2.75mi

Saturday: 6mi long run in the morning. Chicago Running Bloggers class at CrossTown Fitness (rode Divvy there & back, 3mi round trip) in the late afternoon. The class was great! Really kicked my ass! Unfortunately, I didn’t eat enough in the 3-4 hours between my run and the class, and I started to feel light-headed and sat out the last circut round. D’oh. But I bought a Groupon for CTF, so hopefully I’ll get another chance soon to make it through a class.

Sunday: Rest. Unless you count sprinting around my in-law’s house with my niece and nephew.

Total Running Miles: 15.7
Total Bike Miles: 11.7
Total Time: 6hr, 40min

I’m gonna finish this run, but first … lemme take a selfie / recover from running up this overpass. 

So the Emo Knee is getting there. With lots of stretching and foam rolling, I can make it through most of my runs/workouts without pain. I’m still having a little bit here and there. But it’s much improved, so I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and hope that as my mileage increases, the pain doesn’t. I did skip one scheduled run this week (an easy run on Friday). But I did add an extra workout (CrossTown Fitness), plus got in some bike miles, so I figure I’m fine without that easy run.

Also, for where I am right now – wonky knee, plus this is the first time since April that I ran mileage in the double digits – I’m pretty happy that I finished a 5K in under 28 minutes without feeling like I was all-out racing.

    Wahoo! So glad to hear emo knee is being less emo. :) hope the knee continues to cooperate over the next few months.

    YAY for the emo knee getting back to health!!! What a HUGE relief!!! Thank goodness that it’s coming back to shape just as marathon training is kicking off!
